Working In TDCJ is a Requirement and is UNPAID WORK unless Your Medical Summary Classfication restricts you from Working!

         Inmates within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) are engaged in various UnPaid work assignments while incarcerated.  

  1. Prison Support Jobs: Most inmates work in prison support roles, which include tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and maintenance,

  2. TDCJ Agribusiness, Land & Minerals Department: Some inmates participate in agricultural and land-related work within the TDCJ system. This is a List of what each Unit Offers.

  3. Texas Correctional Industries (TCI): TCI operates a prison industries program where inmates can work on various projects. This program allows private companies to partner with TDCJ and employ inmates who have volunteered to be part of the program.

Keep in mind that these work assignments serve multiple purposes, including skill development, maintaining prison operations, and potentially aiding inmates in their reintegration into society after their sentences are completed.
