Understanding The Texas Prison TDCJ System
Trying to Understand the Structure of TDCJ can get very complicated with all the Divisions contained within TDCJ.
TDCJ is Governed by an Executive Director and the Assistant Executive Director.
Under them is the 9 Member Texas Board of Criminal Justice-TBCJ-TBCJ oversees TDCJ and all of its working functions.
Below are The Main Areas that Most Family & Friends are Interested In.
- The Main Division that handles Inmates is the CID-Correctional Institutions Division.
CID is comprised of 6 Regions within Texas. Each Region is Responsible for the Units within their Area.
- Parole is Divided Between Two Divisions.
The Parole Division supervises offenders released from prison. It is comprised of 5 Regions.
The Board of Pardons and Paroles decides which eligible offenders to release on parole.
It is comprised of 6 Regions and 7 Offices.
To Add to the Confusion, there are 7 Institutional Parole Offices (IPO) that are not all the same as the 7 Offices of the Board of Pardons and Paroles.
